This book was a gift from a friend who knows me better than I know myself. It felt like it was written specifically for me. I loved every bit of it, it was over too soon.

A good debut, but I think the writing style just wasn’t for me. It seemed a bit choppy with sudden jumps in time, and I feel like the things that happened from Michael and that one dinner, the outcome just wasn’t explained or connected well in my view (this, and a few other things). Regardless, I really did like this as a debut, and I’m holding out on Erika coming up with a fabulous second novel. The story was really cool, just the execution wasn’t my favourite.

I love reading indigenous stories and this sounded like a fun horror read but it was definitely advertised incorrectly. It's more of a family drama, it addresses generational trauma, and there is a murder mystery. The horror was more cultural to me as it was basically just a ghost and a paranormal plain. Horror is a hard genre to distinguish but I would put this one as mystery.
It was an interesting story and I still recommend it but I wish I had a different set of expectations for it going in.

Read this on audiobook and would actually recommend it, the narrator was fantastic and storyline was easy to follow, amidst overcast day walks with my dog it was the perfect October read.

Since I am from Colorado m, this book hit a particularly nostalgic note for me.

I loved how it was paced and how the horror elements slipped right in.
