Incredible! Hats off to Jean Ray for maintaining such an intense atmosphere of dread through the course of an entire novel.

Like Machen's "The Three Impostors," this is a novel that slowly comes together and, once it has, compels you to start again from the beginning. I look forward to my next read of Malpertuis... And the next... And the next...

My recommendation to you is to go in completely blind! Ray will not lead you astray.
