The air of unease that permeates the whole read was great. It really had me questioning the intentions of every character you meet. Perhaps the killer should have been obvious but I am new to the genre and the book kept me guessing the entire time.

Couldn't put the book down most of the time and finished it in 2 days. It's not perfect but I really really enjoyed the read. Absolutely loved the setting. The descriptions of the rough sea/coast, wilderness, small town were so good, it actully felt like being there. (Gosh, I miss travelling so much.) Anahera is an amazing protagonist. Hurt, tough and unapologetically angry. It was so refreshing to read from her point of view. And I really liked the plot. I have a very soft spot for small town mysteries and past secrets. Also, the short chapters, alternating perspectives (between Anahere and Will) and the foreshadowing/cliffhangers at the end of the chapters made it so easy to get through.
The beginning was a little slow but took up pace once Miriama disappeared. I really liked how the tension got more and more intense throughout the book and how you became more and more paranoid towards the end. However, there was a portion in the middle of the book that was a little slow, especially compared to the first half and the last third of the book. Although I liked Will well enough (the way he cared for the town people was endearing), I didn't care much for his past. Didn't care for the romance sub plot that much either, but I guess it was inevitable. And thankfully it didn't distract me from the main plot.
I like that you get to know so many minor characters because I actually enjoyed the small town vibes and all the red herrings. But I just wish there was a little bit more focus on the 6 friends and the past. This was teased so much at the beginning but the bits and pieces you got weren't fully satisfying. And I agree with other reviews that the portrayal of Miriama was a little one sided. Yeah, everyone is in love with her, got it.
I'm not a fan of Romance/Supernatural book but I liked the writing here so much, that I hope Nalini Singh writes some more of these mysteries.
