I actually think this book is very good, but unfortunately, my personal experience with it was similar to my experience with The Song of Achilles. As someone who isn't a big fan of Greek mythology, it was difficult to fully enjoy the book. Additionally, the pacing of the book was a struggle for me, which made it hard to keep going.

However, I do want to comment on the writing style, which was beautiful and easy to read. That was the one thing that kept me going despite the other issues I encountered.

Overall, I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Despite my personal struggles with it, I recognize that it has a lot of merits and could be a great read for someone who enjoys Greek mythology and can appreciate the slower pacing.

Madeline Miller has such a way with words, every sentence is so eloquently put together, every book hundreds of pages of poetry. I love how she picks ancient gods and goddesses and tells their stories so beautifully. The reason I scored this book with a pretty average grade was because I found it difficult to keep my interest half way through and if I wasn’t listening to it, would’ve made it difficult to make it to the end. It was a story of a character that at the beginning seemed quite unremarkable however you do want to hang around to see what becomes of her. If there was a bit more interest within the middle of this books, I definitely would’ve rated it higher.

The writing is so beautiful but I don’t really enjoy the long chapters.

I so badly wanted to love this book the way I loved The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, but I was left disappointed. The end left me saying, “that’s it?” I wanted there to be more, more story, more to Circe in general. It talked about her on her island just turning men into pigs and I mean…ok? She deserved a better story line. I feel like this book had more potential. It was an ok read overall, but wouldn’t really recommend it.
