It reads quickly, it's fast-paced, and it's so captivating in a twisted way that I've never been so disgusted by characters in a book!
I didn't really liked Chiamaka's personality at the beginning, but throughout the book I was able to understand and like her more. I was attached to Devon from the start and I think his humor and reactions helped a lot. I didn't liked how the things turned (who could like that?) but I really liked the way everything ended, and even if the epilogue was far in the future, I was extremely satisfied! The story was done well, and while I was expecting most of it (sadly), I was still really disgusted to be right.
It's a novel, but it still rings to what happens in real life: may it be the feelings to be the only (or almost) people of color in a school, the hardship to live or even survive in a difficult neighborhood - up to go towards drugs -, homophobia in those neighborhoods but also in private (or not) schools, racism from teachers towards POC students, and most of all social eugenics, which I knew was learned in school back then, but is still here in the schools but more discreet, coming from teachers, students, and (so-called) friends...
I think this book will stay in my mind for a while with all the feelings I had reading it.
