Nick Podehl adds something special to stories like this, his narration is definitely top notch.
The interpersonal relationships in this story is probably my favourite part of it. The plot is great too, but I think the characters just elevate it.

This entire book is one long series of World of Warcraft-style fetch quests.
"In order to get permission to do the thing you've already done, you must travel to this place and retrieve the magical artifact of prophecy."
"We have the magical artifact of prophecy but will only give it to you if you travel to this place and bring back this person."
"In order to leave with this person, you must successfully complete my elaborate skills test!"
"Surprise! You found the person, but we don't actually have the magical artifact of prophecy. You're going to have to go here and talk to this guy to get it."
"I am the guy who really has the magical artifact of prophecy but I won't give it to you until you complete this task for me."
I hate fetch questing in video games and I don't like it any better in fantasy novels. This is by far the worst book in the series. There is just enough important detail here that I'm not completely pissed off that I read it, but approximately 90% of this book could have been cut.

Easily the best so far, but there's a very unfortunate cliffhanger
If you felt unsatisfied by Book 3, a majority of you will greatly appreciate Book 4. Although the end will leave you extremely upset at a certain character and the cliffhanger is beyond brutal. With that said, book 4 feels like what book 3 should've been so I'm just going to call it book 2.5 from now and and refer to this one as book 3.

Nothing special. His writing is about the same and the story is losing motivation/focus

This one definitely had me nodding my head appreciatively and simply uttering, “Damn,” at unexpected intervals.

This was better than the 3rd book but not by much in my opinion. It felt rushed when traveling from location to location and it felt very busy as well. I am excited for Fate of the Fallen in Nov 2019 because the first two books in Kings Dark Tidings were stellar and I told many family members about them so I am expecting something on their level with this new series.
