I wanted to like this; I had listened to a lot of clips from the author and figured I would enjoy his writing. Unfortunately, the book was incredibly lengthy when it didn’t need to be (he used 20 words were 2 would’ve worked). The writing would often stray so far from the rule that I would forget what the rule was. I can’t tell for sure what his religious beliefs are, but he talked a lot about Daoism and Christianity and how they intertwine with evolutionary theory. As a (non-Christian) religious person (who has studied Christianity), it felt largely out of context and didn’t seem to make objective sense. It was unfortunate that it ultimately came across as someone who wants readers to perceive them as this genius philosopher instead of just getting to the point of the argument he was supposedly trying to make.

Parts of it were fascinating. I enjoyed some of the lobster research. I wish he would have heavily edited out all the fluff and stayed closer to what was actually relevant; I probably would have thoroughly enjoyed it if so.

Author is the reader of the audiobook.

This was a poorly demonstrated opinion piece disguised as a researched philosophical guide for living. My life is worse for having read it.
