Easy to read, feel-good novella. I'm excited to read the other ones. Both characters were interesting. In fact, even Helene, whom we never actually interacted with, was a clearly hashed-out character. I like the way this uses the roommate trope but does it in a fresh way. I also liked that, for once, one of them wasn't a scientist (Ali Hazelwood tends to have "same face syndrome" like certain artists do, but for book characters). I've read 3 Ali Hazelwoods before this, and they were all strictly set within the bounds of academia.

There wasn't much plot because it was just a novella. I think it could solidly have been a whole book! The other reason for a docked half-star is that, a couple of times, the writing was exactly the same as some of her other books. Something about Liam being able to kill someone with a beachball? I swear she says that about Adam in Love Hypothesis. Also, the recreation of the Kylo & Rey shirtless scene was so cringey. Lastly, the lack of certainty with the last scene. Hazelwood brings up cleanliness too late, and just to make it clear as mud, which was odd.

I give Emma Wilder 5/5. No notes :)

This was my first Ali Hazelwood novella and book ever and it did not disappoint!

I loved her writing style so much, eventough sometimes it made me feel very uneducated and dumb. I really liked the fact that Mara was an environmental engineer and you could actually tell.

The characters were very cute and I liked them, but I just didn't feel very attached to them (partially because it was barely above a hundred pages). Mara was a great character, but I didn't adore Liam. He was a bit cold and I don't enjoy reading about cold characters.

I felt like the spice scene at the end was too long and it kind of made me uncomfortable.

It was a good novella overall and I'll definitely read the other novellas.

I love a good enemies to lovers/misunderstanding trope. It was a quick read (and of an author I’d read before) too which I appreciated, cos it meant the pacing would be on the fast side but on the other hand, I felt like there were a few parts I had some issues with. I loved the mutual pining but I disliked how they got together in the end - it was a bit sudden and borderline non-consensual.

Loved Liam as the male main character though; I love my men brooding. But I would’ve loved it even more if he had waxed poetic about Mara.
