whew...just finished the book and my heart is still pounding.

This is a very delicious ride on the wild side. Great characters, non-stop action, and a pretty crazy twist towards the end.

highly recommend this, it is the kind of book that pulled me in and I forgot the world around me till I reached the last page.

4⭐️ Justus’s Alliance (Prequel & Book 1)

Action, dedication, romance, danger, and a need to do what is right always make for great reading!
I really enjoyed Risk and Addie’s story … both dedicated to their professions and putting their own desires aside for the greater good.

Quick Summary
Rick "Risk" Yarbrough's first assignment with The Justiss Alliance turns out to be a babysitting job...so he thinks. Addie Wunder, an animal rights activist and daughter of a five-star general, has made a few enemies. One of them means her harm so Dad is forcing bodyguard protection on her against her protests.

About Addie
She's not completely convinced she's in danger so she doesn't roll out the welcome mat for Risk. Addie's a knockout and she's also very, very good at what she does. Her life is completely devoted to the animals and this attraction she's feeling for the ex-Navy SEAL is an unwanted DIS-traction.

Romance and suspense
Despite starting with a bang and ending with a very exciting and tension filled climax, the balance leans more towards romance in this story. Risk has a wicked sense of humor that keeps things lively. Addie's no slouch and matches him quip for quip.

Standout moment
There's one scene that will always be memorable and it involves a little public hanky-panky. It was outstanding. You'll have to read it for yourself.

The bottom line
I really enjoyed this story despite preferring a bit more suspense. The romance worked even when these two did the denial dance. The characters are appealing and the other Justiss Alliance teammates are a big draw. I'm still in with this series.

Cracking read!. Risk didn't get his nickname for nothing. He is a base jumping, parachuting, mountaineering adventurer in his free time. He was always almost getting killed for nothing but decided to join the Seals and almost die for something!!!! Addie Wunder is an animal hugger and driven by her unending belief that to get out of her driven parents shadows she has to achieve something, at the rick of having nothing else in her life. These two are like black powder and touch paper - an explosive combination. The story is fast paced and a highly enjoyable romp.

Meet the Justiss Alliance: Risk, Rath, Saxby, Knox, and Julian. Led by Chase Justiss, a mysterious employer with a cloaked history, these fallen SEALS are using their ruined reputations and are going to start turning wrongs to rights. All of the boys are deliciously handsome and flawed in their own way and am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Now I have to start off by saying that I picked up this book expecting some steamy romance....a little adult reading to break up all the YA reading I've been doing lately. That is exactly what I was looking for at the moment. I mean who doesn't love an occasional steamy romance featuring a sexy military guy who falls for the girl. I also would not have been bothered with a bit of "insta-love." That being said I was a little disappointed with both Risk and Addie right from the beginning. Disclaimer: I don't consider the following spoilers because it happens right at the beginning of the book. Risk is basically briefed on his assignment by his boss and Addie's father. They explain that she was almost hit by a car and although it may have been an accident they don't think it was. They explain that in her mission as an animal activist she doesn't always follow the letter of the law and sometimes people get angry. Then the father show's Risk Addie's social media page....at this point we can see he's already in love. This is where you can picture me rolling my eyes and sighing. Like I said, I could have gotten behind them meeting and falling in love shortly after...but they didn't even meet! All it took was a picture. How am I not supposed to think he's shallow for the rest of the story? But I tried to let that go and kept reading.

I'll move on to Addie now. What I failed to mention is that when Addie's father showed Risk her picture he also told Risk that Addie is a lesbian. Shortly after that Risk and Addie are in her car driving to an event, having just met each other. Of course Addie instantly finds him attractive, something is said about her being a lesbian so naturally she instantly makes out with him. What?! Let me explain, several months ago she told her father she was a lesbian...she lied. She was tired of being set up on dates and wanted to focus on her career and not men so she told him she was a lesbian. So obviously, the first hot guy that comes around she makes out with after knowing him minutes and confesses she's actually straight. There are so many things wrong with this that I don't even know where to begin.

That being said, I kept reading thinking that the book could only get better from there...which it did. I put my initial impressions of the main characters aside and kept reading. The writing was good and the plot was interesting enough to get me to finish the book. After my first impressions of Risk and Addie were out of the way they didn't really show any more off-putting qualities after that. Addie ended up being a strong, independent woman who really cared about her cause and the work she was doing to help animals. I was happy to find that she did not end up being a damsel in distress. Risk, while obviously being physically attracted to Addie (this is a steamy romance after all) began to really care for her as well and this came across too.

What I liked most was the suspense factor of the book. I really had no idea who was trying to kill Addie and why. I'm a sucker for a good mystery and was genuinely surprised by the outcome. It wasn't predictable and was quite intense at the end. By the end of the book I was happy that I decided to keep reading, even after my initial impression of the main characters. The end of the book gives a bit of a glimpse into the other members of Risk's team and I imagine the next book in the series will tell the story of one the other guys. I'm interested to know if I'd find the other characters to be a bit more likable but I'm not sure if/when I'll pick up the next one. Overall I enjoyed the story for what it was...a sexy romance with a little intrigue.

4 ¼ stars

Risk is new on the job at Justiss Alliance. His first assignment is to be the bodyguard for a retired general’s animal activist daughter. How hard could that be? He was a SEAL just a few months ago. Risk finds out that protecting a stubborn woman is far more complicated than he imagined, especially when his first look at her wakes up parts of his soul and heart; something he never thought possible.

I adored the interaction between Risk and Addie. Lots of their dialog made me chuckle. Honestly it was the best part of the book. Why this book is not a 5 star for me was the part of the plot. The plot of an animal activist being a target was unique for me. However I found Risk’s few “issues” with protecting Addie rather mind boggling. I just couldn’t fathom a former Navy SEAL, and one that was less than 6 months out to miss the signs he had; and to “lose” his client as many times as he did. The major incident at the end was rather flat for me and resolved too easily. However the sizzling interaction between Addie and Risk made up for these issues. They had instant chemistry from the first meeting. That coupled with their great dialog, and unique plot made for a great book.
I will definitely be reading more books in this series.
