Greek mythology retellings have me in a CHOKEHOLD. As sweet as Hermes is, my vote is on Ares. I wanted to give this 4 stars for the last 3/4 of the book but I had to keep in mind the first half and the lack of plot

Good idea, but poor writing. Main character grew up in a prison had no education but the writing style uses big words. Seems like we picked up a thesaurus and used all big words we could find... even if we didn't understand the meaning.

For fans of Scarlett St. Clair!
This was such a refreshing spin on the classic stories of Greek Gods and Goddesses. Saffron’s story holds its own next to the old stories we know and love.
I’ve read a lot of retellings and was pleasantly surprised to see Hermes be our possible love interest instead of the, now wildly popular choice, Hades.
This was a fun quick read with several twists I didn’t see coming. Saffrons story unfolds organically and she is a female main character that is easy to root for! I’m looking forward to the second book!

I went into this series knowing very very little about it! But I can say I am hooked! I can’t wait to see what happens next. Everything is starting to make more sense!

I really enjoyed this book. 4/5 Stars
I think that the premise was very unique and the authors tiktoks advertising the book are what pulled me in.
Greek gods have taken over the earth and humans are not much more than slaves to them. Some gods are benevolent an treat the humans right, and others..... well....
The book grabbed me from the beginning and the world building was spread out over the first few chapters. I didn't feel like I was being overwhelmed and losing interest like many books do these days.
My only complaint about this book and the sequel are the words chosen. What I mean by that is it felt like the author opened up a thesaurus and used large/uncommon words to describe things that could be used with more common words.
I don't mind this occasionally but it felt like every time she could have used "Fear" she used "Petrification". This is just one example and it happened throughout both books. To be honest, I felt like I was stupid with some of the words she used and I was constantly having to look up the words I didn't know. I don't mind having my vocabulary expanded, but I felt like it was a bit much.
Otherwise, I was eager to read book two and got lucky that it was released the date I officially started this one!

I really have mixed feelings about the book, so I'll just summarize this by the following:
Characters: 3/5
Writing: 3/5
World Building: 2/5
Magic System/Action: 2.5/5
Plot: 3/5
Pacing: 2/5
Development: 2.5/5
It was not that bad but also not enough for me to say that I really like it. There is room for a lot of improvement and I hope the sequel is way better.

This is my first Greek mythology book, and it didn't disappoint! It took me a while to remember all the characters, but it had great worldbuilding and characters. God's and goddesses rule the world, and humans are treated poorly. I loved Hermes in this book, and Saffron is coming into her own! Look forward to book 2!
