I loved both books, and this one just tied everything together. I loved Penn and Elle, they for me were truly meant to be. From him saving her to her saving him it was just all meant be.

Overall, I enjoyed the duology but I was far from loving it. I probably wouldn’t recommend it as something that needs to be read, but it was a good story to pass the time.

My main issue was it felt... juvenile? For most of the book. It got worse for me as it went on, and by the trial I was just annoyed at how everything was happening.

Her dad does a complete 180 & I expected him to have more of a reaction to seeing the necklace, maybe a convo about what ACTUALLY happened? But it didn’t. & Greg’s dad kept getting a pass. He pushed the gross twit on her for years. I wish he HAD been at the trial to see how awful his kid was. He deserved much more than he got, not forgiveness. What if he did that to someone else?

There was drama until the epilogue in this. He was seriously leaving her in the last chapter and since this book spent so much time with them apart, it kinda hurt that it ended that way and then had a super short epilogue with them basically just wanting to have sex again?

For me, because there wasn’t much of them together, I needed more romance to the story, because I couldn’t love what was going on all the time. And then I was just bummed at how quick they passed over all the bad guys punishments. Also, Greg was an awful villain. I rolled my eyes whenever he came up.

This won’t stop me reading PW’s work, I still enjoyed the book, and it DID have parts I really liked, but I think I just expected something different going in and that when certain things didn’t play out how I wanted them to that I lost most of my enjoyment.

WARNING: Do not read this review if you have not read Crown of Lies. This review is full of spoilers for Crown of Lies.

If you all had a chance to read my Crown of Lies review--the first book in the duology that you must absolutely read before picking up Throne of Truth--you all know how much I was very much looking forward to Throne of Truth with bated breath. I had so many questions, and I got them all answered in this book. It was ultimately a satisfying conclusion for a fantastic series.

Throne of Truth picks up right where Crown of Lies left off. Elle was kidnapped by Greg, her childhood friend and the man her father initially wanted her to be with, and he has taken her to an unknown location. Greg also sent goons to beat up Penn, who was stressing over how to finally tell Elle the truth about himself. After escaping Greg's goons, Penn used his contacts to track Elle down. The first twenty-five percent of the book was very intense, because moronic but dangerous Greg has Elle at him mercy. However, despite the fact the Elle was under the control of Greg, she still had that grit and strength that I loved about her in Crown of Lies. Elle is no simpering heroine, and I really appreciated that.

Whereas Crown of Lies was only through Elle's perspective, in Throne of Truth we get both Elle and Penn in alternating chapters, which I really liked since we got to know more about Penn's background and insight about him that we wouldn't have know otherwise just from Elle. In Crown of Lies, I couldn't quite like Penn one hundred percent since he had so many secrets--I didn't want to like him and then be hit with a twist and have to change my mind about him. In this book, I liked Penn one hundred percent. He's protective, sweet and sexy, and the chemistry between him and Elle burns through the pages. I absolutely love them together. Elle and Penn's road to their ultimate happily ever after was kind of a slow burn here but when they do get together, their sex scenes, like in the first book, were intense and hot!

Throne of Truth is not as dark as Crown of Lies, but it was very emotionally charged. Ultimately, I give this book four stars. I really liked it and I am satisfied with the ending, but I also had all kinds of theories after reading Crown of Lies, and imagined all of these twists about Penn's character and how he was connected to Elle's Nameless. But, after reading the synopsis for Throne of Truth, it wasn't hard to figure out what direction the book will go when it comes to the Penn/Nameless connection.

I don't know... Personally, I guess I'm a tad disappointed it wasn't as twisty as I imagined. However, I am very much impressed by Crown of Lies and Throne of Truth--they were my first reads by Pepper Winters, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more by her. I highly recommend Crown of Lies and Throne of Truth, especially if you like your romances darker, twistier, and a lot sexier!

Honest review for ARC

When Elle ran from Penn, I was screaming NO! Now Greg has her, and I can't wait for her to get away him. The mind games in this book is killing me.

I love the push and pull between Penn and Elle. Their emotions bleed over the pages. Wow! Hold on to your book or e-reader because all the angst will make you want to throw them.

I swear if this is your first book by Pepper Winters treasure each chapter because she knows how to write the dark romance that will make you laugh and cry!

I loved the first book and this one started out great, but the second half was boring and Elle was so annoying. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.

My Rating:- 3.5/5
Throne of Truth starts right from where Crown of lies ended. Elle gets kidnapped by Greg, the man whom Elle's father and his best friend were constantly setting up with (right before Penn is about to tell her of his past and who he really is). I never liked Greg, the moment he opened his mouth, I started disliking his character. He was nothing but a rich spoiled brat, he was a very weak and stupid character as an antagonist.
The first few parts of the book focus on the part where Elle is held captive and how Greg tried to control her but she remained strong and determined through it all.
“My body blinded me while his lies destroyed me. Penn Everett swept me from my world and into his, and when his lies fell apart, I finally opened my eyes to the truth. The awful, terrible truth.”
However when Elle is rescued, the truth starts to unravel bit by bit. We get a lot more insight about Penn's past, how he spent his life and how he met Stewie and Larry along the way.
"Just like school had bullies
Prison had thugs
It was all a chess board in the end
No one was king for long
And no one stayed a rock forever
We were all jumping over each other trying to win the Queen."
At first I didn't fully understand Penn but then peices of his true self came out and I started feeling the depth of his and Elle's relationship. Penn was protective, caring, soft and possessive. He really took care of Elle and made sure of her comfort before his needs.
"You are mine, Elle.
No more secrets.
No more lies."
Elle came if as a weak character in the first book but then, she grew to be confident and managed to have a clear opinion about Penn.
"I don't need someone to claim me. I claim me."
The book was stretched up especially the parts were Elle was kidnapped felt too long, descriptive and unnecessary. But overall the difficult parts of Penn's life were filled with emotions and I could really sympathize with him.
The good part about this book is that it shows us that if there are bad people in the world (in this book's case the corrupt police officers), there are a lot of good people too (Larry) who are willing to fight against injustice and are genuinely interested to help people who have been wronged.
I really loved Pepper Winters Indebted series but sadly this duology wasn't that impactful. The ending wasn't just strong, it felt rushed but overall this is not a bad read.
