Very satisfying end, although so much has happened throughout the three books that keeping track of everything and everyone is quite complicated. I liked the new characters introduced in this and wish we had seen more of them and the wider mythology around Rotherweird valley, such as Hoy and the Clauds, as well as the earliest history.

Likeable characters and adequately compelling mysteries led me to believe finishing the series would be worth my time. I was mistaken. Ended up skimming my way through a fair amount since it was a dull climax. Each book suffered from sudden resolutions and unceremonious character deaths that lacked impact.

To say something nice for the series, I did enjoy the first and second books and was only irritated by awkward action and confusing writing. I appreciated the cozy feeling of characters gathering to plainly lay out clues. It provided some necessary clarity, and really felt like a forging of meaningful friendships between practical strangers.

I'm sad to reach the end of this trilogy.

A fantastic end to a fantastic trilogy, this volume wraps up the story of Rotherweird with it’s characteristic blend of oddity, humour and deep darkness and cruel deeds. The mysteries persist right up to the end and the characters continue to develop right up to the last page. Very satisfying, I shall miss Rotherweird.

Like the preceding books in the Rotherweird series, this started off painfully slow, and then accelerated almost uncontrollably before rocketing off in the last 100 pages. What a ride.

This is one of those odd series that I would be unlikely to recommend to most people. You need to be a certain type of person - it’s very niche.

As I mentioned in my reviews of the first and second books, I alternately loved and hated these books. I’m still not sure what I think of the series as a whole, but even though I found the books (and characters) infuriatingly annoying at times (mostly the first halves of the books), I still (mostly) enjoyed the process.

I’ll need to ruminate on it further - I’m not 100% set on my star rating…

A fab ending filled with mayhem, mystery and a tied up ending - or does it?
With such an eclectic taste in characters, a strange but mystical fog hovers over this book filled with science, history and magic.
