Definitely a scary and dark read, all the more so because the characters are all tiny foxes in a giant, horrifying world. I am not a parent myself, but I probably would not give this to a kid in the age range it's marketed for unless I knew they were into spooky, terrifying, and sad reads (I definitely was that sort of kid, which explains a lot).

This book draws from a couple different horror tropes, and I could see little traces of some of my favorite sub-genres of horror here and there (zombie-infection horror, survival horror, even some almost Lovecraftian descriptions of monsters). The best part was that its does this from the perspective of animals, who don't always understand what they are seeing or experiencing, and this known-unknown effect is very chilling.
