This poetry collection was inspired by the games and imaginative playing with his son Christopher Robin and I think A. A. Milne has really written some wonderful verses full of imagination and childish wonder. I thought it was about Winnie-the-Pooh, but the silly old bear only makes an apperance in one of the poems, if I understood them right. The language is easy and the rhymes roll right of your tongue, I can see both adults and children reading them and being struck by the images of happiness that Milne has created.

I wasn't massively into this poetry collection. I'm not a big reader of poetry in general, and there was almost no Winnie the Pooh content so I question why it's in a collected edition with the Winnie the Pooh books. But there were one or two that were quite sweet, and the illustrations by E.H. Shepard are exquisite as always.

Cannot keep up with the "Winnie the Pooh"- books. Felt kind of flat for me. The only poems I enjoyed of this collection were "Daffodowindilly", "Politness", "Halfway Down", and "Teddy Bear" (the only poem featuring Winnie Puuh).

This book has been on my bookshelf for an extremely long time and I’ve only ever read bits of it until now. After reading it in its entirety I wondered why I left it so long to read it. I wasn’t disappointed and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It was the third book, according to Good Reads, in the Winnie-the-Pooh series. I loved the poetry, and the stories that these poems told. It’s a classic book which has stood the test of time and I suspect will be around for many years to come. It was wonderful to go down memory lane again especially during this time of uncertainty.

Happy National Poetry Month everyone! I will admit, I am not a huge reader of poetry, but I do plan on attempting to read more in the scope of wanting to expand my literary horizons. If you have any favorite poets that I just have to read, let me know in the comments below this post! In the spirit of this month and in reading the Winnie the Pooh series, I picked up a copy of When We Were Very Young by A.A. Milne.

This book is a quick read (took me a couple of hours of off and on reading to finish) full of darling little poems and drawings. Most of these poem were quite endearing and charming. I had to take pictures of a couple of the drawings too just for my own reference. I couldn't help but find myself reflecting on childhood as a theme for this collection and inserting images of my daughter among the characters of each poem.

I hope to one day check this book out again to read to my daughter. The poems are short enough to hold her attention now, but I think she will appreciate it more when she's a touch older. You really should take the time to read this. It's a perfect pick-me-up!

I especially loved “Summer Afternoon”, “The Invaders” and “Teddy Bear”. The amount of cows in this did not disappoint in the slightest.
