I had read this when it first came out but didn't remember it will. I think I probably picked up on other aspects some twenty years later. I was interested in Nazeem's story- she's a complex character with strengths, weaknesses and a journey to travel. Razia had started in my mind more clearly and I would have liked more of her, and if Hasina as well. I was also interested in the nuances of how Chana is portrayed, sympathetically in some ways, despite him being hugely frustrating and at times unbearable. Definitely worth the reread
Graphic: Child death and Racism
Moderate: Addiction, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Sexism, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, Islamophobia, Grief, Death of parent, and Pregnancy
