The plot itself as a suspense/mystery but also really captures the experience of black womanhood and corrupt justice systems. It was interesting to read a book set in London because it is such an accurate representation of the US. Great balance of a mysterious crime with twists, and the impacts of racism & generational trauma.

Overwrought, practically incoherent trash. There’s not a single plausible character and the plot is utter nonsense. The writing is at best awkward and often simply terrible. I regret every minute reading this twaddle.

I selected this book from @amazonbooks for the Amazon First Reads in March.

Publication date: April 1st, 2022

These serious topics the writer touched on were outlined in a mystery plot that at times was kinda rough to get through. Some of the puns had me side-eyeing, like really. It touched on topics many people of color who frequent predominantly white spaces can relate to such as media bias, career opportunities, etc. The story itself was interesting and a necessary one to be told however, the writing itself could've used a little more focus. Overall, as a woman that works with women that have been sex trafficked and families of missing people daily, I feel that it missed the mark to deliver the extreme impact of the trauma those that face these circumstances deal with.

powerful!

No bad words to say about. So glad I listened to the audio, which was read by the amazing Arsema Thomas (aka Lady Danbury from Bridgeton). It is a thriller suspense with a whole lot of meaning. I would def recommend.

This had so much potential but the writing was just so bad. Wanting to know how the cringey story ended kept me reading.
