Some good ideas but they try to address to wide an audience, many chapters being of no interest to different parts of these too widely imagined readers.

I've read up a lot about research and this book introduced a lot of things that I had never run into before, but as a voracious reader I intuitively knew that they make a lot of sense. Very easy to read, well-organized chapters and sections, does not try to overwhelm you with too much information at once.

You know, it's funny. I was forced to read this book for class, and I assumed it would be just another dry, boring, textbook that would put me to sleep. I already strongly dislike nonfiction, and figured this would be another dull read that would leave me dreading my weekly assignments. Lucky for me, I was wrong.

This book, while sometimes a little tedious, was a pretty pleasant read. While I will never read it again, nor would I suggest it in general conversation, I think it successfully delivers its message in an straightforward and easy-to-read format. Dare I say, I sometimes found myself laughing about a comment one of the authors made. It meets its objective, to clarify and simplify the research process, particularly for beginners. I found myself much less anxious about the idea of research than I had been before, and if I was planning to be a researcher, this would be a handy guide to keep around. Unfortunately, as I have no real interest in research, this book will probably not get much more use from me once I am out of grad school.

But for anyone interested in becoming a researcher, or learning about the ins and outs of the research process and all of the requirements to writing research papers, this book is great! And I think this would be a great addition to undergrad curriculums, especially for intro research courses. I wish I had read this a long time ago, back when I was first getting starting writing papers, rather than now, so close to the end of my schooling.

Not something I was “dying to read,” but an extremely clear and well-written refresher on writing and research before I plunge into a new academic adventure. Looking forward to referring back to it as needed.

Second time through this book. I think I found it more fruitful this time. I've been teaching research in a library setting for 8 years. I've written a lot too. I think my mind was ready for this one.
