A cleaver concept especially if you are a fan of the original Star Trek and the movie Galaxy Quest.

Scalzi makes this a quick fun read with lots of little referances to classic Sci-fi television concepts and shows.

Maybe there's spoilers here? Redshirts has some great humor and characters however the story goes too deep in the metaphysical realm for my liking. I was interested in the characters and relationships at the start that I wanted more of that ensigns working their ranks in the fleet instead of all the breaking of the fourth wall stuff. Regardless the book was fun and if you can get past the metaphysics (which I didn't) than I highly recommend. I will say I can't wait to read more from John Scalzi he writes great dialogue and characters.

I have mixed feelings about this one. It was enjoyable but I debated between 3 and 4 stars. It was fun but a Hugo award winner? Glad it was a library checkout

This book is much different that John Scalzi's other work (such as the Old Man's War Series). The book has the main story first and then 3 different perspectives (or Codas). The addition of the codas makes this book very introspective. I recommend this book if you enjoy John Scalzi's other work such as Android's Dream or if you enjoy meta commentary on the craft of writing fiction.
