This is a very good overview of codes and ciphers throughout history. I felt like the earlier (and simpler) methods were explained really well, but I definitely felt lost at times once it got to the mechanical and quantum sections. I would not expect to perfectly understand all of the details, but I do wish there had been a little more explanation in these parts, preferably with diagrams. Only about two pages was devoted to each of these chapters, and I think upping that to just three pages would have made a big difference. That being said, I loved the first half, and I think overall the book provides an excellent sampling/intro of content that can be explored further at one's own leisure.
