I was assigned this book for SPFBO4, and quite enjoyed the beginning. Only problem is that it appears to be a straight science fiction novel, and the contest is for fantasy books only. Even if there were some creatures with unexplainable “magic” abilities down the road, this would still be a 95% science fiction book, so I don’t feel right pushing t forward against other fantasy novels in this contest.

BUT...!!! For everyone else who doesn’t care about SPFBO and wants to check out an exciting sci fi about two siblings who emigrate from their tough life on a tough planet to settle somewhere new and promising, they jump at the chance. Of course, things don’t go according to plan, and there’s plenty of warring factions and political strife to conflict with.

This really does seem up my alley, and it’s easy to tell how natural a writer Erick is after reading just a few pages. Give this one a go! I would love to come back and finish this once I finish other commitments.
