DNF. I wanted to like this book for bringing speciesism to the spotlight. If only everyone respected animals just a little bit more!
Unfortunately I could not get through it. I almost quit reading several times. Almost after the sushi restaurant visit, the unquestioned wild caught aquarium acquisitions, the 10th shrugged off death of an animal in clear attempts of escape, and the 50th anthropomorphic comment.
What finally broke me was the light hearted description of the horrible student experiments. The book missed a perfect opportunity to show the reader just how inhumane animal research is and how there are no protections in place for the very same amazing animals an entire book was written about.

Perfection. The author’s narration captured her true enthusiasm and it was a joy to listen to. I laughed I smiled I nearly cried. If Remarkably Bright Creatures was a Pixar movie, this was the PBS non fiction special. I now want more octopus content in my life and to listen to more from this author!
