I'll be honest... I still don't really like Nesta.

ACOSF was well written but really quite slow; it took me a long while to get into fully. Certain plot points felt far too convenient, and somewhat forced, but overall it was... alright. To be completely frank, I don't get the insane amounts of hype this book gets.

It was enjoyable enough, but completely forgettable. 3 stars.

**2023 REREAD**

I remember not really liking this book the first time around, but I must have been wrong because I really enjoyed that! The first quarter dragged a bit, but once the training really kicks in it’s a strong book with lots of healing and empowerment.

I will say, miss Sarah certainly likes to repeat herself. The amount of phrases that were repeated three times in a row was unnecessarily high. I know it’s a style choice, but I’m of the opinion that it’s a bit of a lazy one. There were a couple other writing things that bugged me (mostly in the spicy scenes) but that one was the one that would bring me out of the book every time.

Anyway, this is a Valkyrie stan account. 4 stars.

SJM just has those magical hands to make readers fall in love with her writing, her stories and her characters. Nesta was so broken in the novella and at the beginning of this book. She blamed herself for the miserable years lived in the cottage, the fact that she let Feyra hunting for the entire family, and death of her father. To be honest I was so angry at Nesta for the first part, but started to see her reasoning throughout the second part and came to understand her in the last part. I am so glad that she found her inner peace and be able to move on from the war. Hopefully we get two releases in 2024!

Heat: 🔥🔥🔥

Loved this book focusing on Nesta and Cassian! Nesta is such a fleshed out character and I love seeing her grow.

I don’t care what anyone else says. This is a great book.

I couldn’t have cared two squats for Nesta prior to reading this book.

So tell me: at what point did my very heart become entirely on the line for her?

This is a beautiful story, woven together with a lot of unnecessary content.
I didn’t read the sex scenes, and I don’t think I missed anything. I loved the slow, painful journey that I went on with Nesta; it felt real and true and good and right.

Cassian knows her, and loves her. I love him for her, and her for him.

I love this tale for its echoes of triumph more than anything. I absolutely adore the Valkyrie, and could honestly have just read a whole book about their story.

I fear for what is coming. I can’t imagine an Elain-centric — or worse, Mor-centric — story, especially not after their stark absences in these pages. But I believe it is certainly coming, especially as we still have no clarity regarding Mor and Eris.

What a redemption arc SJM can write though; I am afraid, and I can’t wait.
