This was great in the way a soap opera is great. The plot (in terms of the larger world’s politics and magic’s role in it) was almost incoherent, but the romance and friendship plots were fun, and I loved the FMCs arc (Nesta is by far the most complex and compelling character in this series now that Feyre and Rhys annoy the hell out of me).

I enjoyed every minute of this book but also suspended the critical thinking part of my brain. When I turn it back on, all of the inconsistencies in characters, magic system, and world building and all the forced plot elements and holes are glaringly obvious. I’m really, really hoping that all these things are intentional and part of some big, elaborate plot that SJM is laying the groundwork for and that will all come together at the end of the series, but at this point that seems unlikely (even tho TOG has shown she’s capable of plotting and writing a great series!) I’d put my money on this just being bad writing and poor series planning.

Overall this is an entertaining book and even though I really didn't like Nesta before, I was rooting for her by the end.
Though the book is really long, there isn't much of a plot. It's mostly Nesta's interior journey and relationship with Cassian.
I love the world building and history in this series and wish the author spent a bit more time on that and less on the sex scenes (which are the most graphic in this series).
Another CW: scary labor/birth scene

Spoilers ahead...

I really didn't need the pregnancy/childbirth storyline. It felt forced and made Feyre and Rhys seem like 2D characters just bumbling around.
I'm glad there's going to be another book in this series because there are still a ton of loose ends! Frustrating that more wasn't resolved with how long this book is.

This was honestly the best one but Nesta is the best character in this series and it was what she deserved.

What a ride 🤍
The ACOTAR series will forever remain in my heart. Since Harry Potter, I haven't felt a story so immersive, rich, and with characters that stole my heart. It became my safe space during lots of changes, and I was happily swept away by this fairy world.
I love Cassian. I respect Nesta. It inspired me a lot and reminded me why I love fantasy so much.
Can't wait for the next books.

I went from hating Nesta Archeron with a deep passion, to her becoming one of my favorite characters in the Maasverse. What I will say is we deserve another book, because I know these characters story isn’t over yet. There’s too much left on the table. Too many questions left unanswered. And I want Elain’s point of view. We all do.

If the book was a standalone I would say it’s enjoyable and fun and might even rate it higher. however, since this is a part of the ACOTAR universe I did not enjoy where Rhys and Feyre’s story went. This book feels too much like its own entity when in reality it’s not supposed to be since all of this started with Feyre and Rhys. I prefer them more than Nesta and Cass and feel like I’ve lost interest overall in this series.
