This book is beyond NSFW but it's not exactly a one-handed affair, either-- reads less like a novel and more like a piss-soaked fever dream of the most deranged sex scenes someone could conjure up. I wonder if audiences 100 years ago had to stop and laugh at what can feel like gratuitous obscenity, but ultimately I enjoyed the ride and found the glimmers of Bataille's mysticism quite haunting.

makes you kind of question what the point of a novel is, wonderful prose but horrible thematically

average french person etc etc
