I enjoyed my stay with these characters. This was a thoughtful book. I was impressed at how the author was able to create complex characters in just a couple of pages.

Though I enjoyed the book, it did feel somewhat rambling and pointless at times, which is why I am giving it three stars. The way in which the characters' lives intertwined due to small, insignificant events was fun to follow, but I was left feeling slightly underwhelmed and a little dissatisfied. Everything was tied up just a little too cosily. Life can be enjoyable and you can maintain a positive outlook even when things don't end up so perfectly.

Overall, I enjoyed the ramble with these characters but it's just three stars for me.

A slow starter, so stick with it. It does get better once the story lines start rolling.

Heartbreak hotel has many, many characters, but the main one is Buffy, who runs the Bn'B and arranges the courses for the lonely hearts. As a book, its not that bad, even though some of the stories are not as good as the others, and some of them end up unfinished. I couldn't understand Buffy at first, I couldn't even make out what kind of celebrity he was. But, I tend to read those books from time to time as a break from the ya, and so heartbreak hotel was a nice book if you don't expect too much from it. I really liked the airoplane metaphore in Andy's, I think, story.

If I hadn't read The Best Exotic Marigold first (aka These Foolish Things), I might have enjoyed this more. I found them very similar however.

It's still a light, fun read. Buffy, a retired actor in London is left a countryside hotel in an old friend's will. He decides to move there and keep it running, using his many experiences in multiple marriages to run courses for newly-single men and women. Various individuals feature, their own stories being told and converging with Buffy's.

I had a little trouble keeping the characters straight, listening to the audiobook of this, but it was comic enough to enjoy. I just found it similar to Moggach's other hotel-themed work.

If you want something with likeable and varied middle-aged to older characters in it, a rambling and gentle story of men and women and their love lives, you'll enjoy the journey through this.

Really enjoyable read. Had to go backwards and forwards to recall characters back stories at times, but that is probably as I read at night-time and nod off at points !
