Stoner is about a man who only did things he wanted when others believed in the cause as well, never once thinking his view on life are enough of a motive. always holding other's opinions to a higher level, regardless of their incompetence or injustice. Being a lover of literature must have made the situation worse.

One of the things that makes his life a tragidy is him going through life out of duty or propriety rather than being driven by passion or love, and that tragidy being called a "simple ordinary life" by so many reviews is what I'll take to heart every time I think of humans..

One can't read this without tearing up. The language was not overly flourished but yet it never fails to touch its readers' hearts.
