I've seen some people complain about the writing in this book. I actually thought the story was interesting; except for the Howard Stern-esque radio jock. But writer Terry Moore did something Brian Vaughan never did, or Joss Whedon(but Whedon only wrote 6 issues), and that is give some real emotional depth to the world. Sure, in Vaughan's run, which are far cooler and more kick ass than Moore's, the kids have to come to terms with their parents being evil and with their own powers, but they never deal with it on more than a superficial level. Moore, however, digs deeper and looks a little harder at these discombobulated teens.

However, all the good work Moore does as a writer is undone but the absolutely subpar artwork of Humberto Ramos. Ramos draws these characters like they belong on Disney XD. They look ridiculous, never cool, always distracting. And when they are yelling something, which may be a flaw in Moore’s writing, because they seem to be yelling a lot, every character looks like steroid-induced wild hogs. It’s unappealing, and made for a very rough read.

It's too bad they have that manga artist for the next set. It ruins Runaways for me.

That was terrible. The art was hideous, the writing atrocious, and there is a certain obnoxious blonde male whose current presence in the group frustrates me beyond all coherent thought. Even the ending, sentimental and 'sweet' as it was, left me cold after a while. Bleh. Let us not speak of this book again, and pray that the next one doesn't suck as much.

I love love love Terry Moore but the series just isn't the same without Brian K. Vaughan.

The storyline seems to be back on track in volume 9, but the artwork in this volume is fairly awful, in my opinion. Still, the narrative has picked back up, so I'll keep going!

Not being a superhero comic reader for the most part, it's a little weird to read comics with so many different artists depicting the same characters (I guess [b:Sandman|25105|Sandman Brief Lives (The Sandman, #7)|Neil Gaiman|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167577136s/25105.jpg|25855] would be one honking exception to this rule). But I was able to adjust ok. One of the things I liked about this series is the day-to-day life challenges of living with super powers, villains for parents and being teenagers. I stopped readin the series in the last volume, because it was all timetravel and other Marvel universe characters, and other things I couldn't connect to. But in this, they're back in LA (ok, Malibu) and there's a little of the daily stuff I enjoy so much. [a:Humberto Ramos|55812|Humberto Ramos|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg] is a bit less rooted in reality than some of the previous artists, but I didn't stop reading, so it wasn't bad. :)

Losing Vaughn and Whedon is too much for this series. I didn't like the artwork and the story was just alright. In volume 9, the survivors of the Majesdane-Skrull war come to get their vengeance on Karolina who they view as responsible for the mess. I liked that the parents' crimes came back to haunt them but didn't care enough about the side character who leaves the team at the end for me to really care about the ending at all. Not terrible but not worth your time unless (like me) you feel compelled to finish the series.

3.5 maybe? Since Brian K. Vaughan is not part of the comics anymore they have been not as good as before. I still liked them, of course, but they were better before. Also, I didn't like the art of this volume, I miss the old one.
