I liked the first half of the book but I found the ending super dissatisfying, I wanted something more to happen at the end. The one twist was pretty good though

For being written in 2018, the reaction to a new global virus was pretty spot-on. Pretty sure they used Ebola as the framework for the actions taken (or not taken). It was funny thinking about how vampires would attempt to assimilate and work the legal system to file for ADA protections. Everything was thought out pretty logically, and it was an exciting read. Around 2/3 of the way, each chapter ended with something like 'if only we knew...' which was fantastic, but then it switched away from the nuclear war plot to the controlling the Catholic church and starting a cult plot? And never went back? In the end, I don't think I felt the dread in the potential after the epilogue that they wanted me to. I would totally read a more story-driven book about Liza.
