This novella was incredible and I loved it! I loved Adena is Powerless so seeing her side of things while Pae was doing the trials was interesting! I also loved Makoto and I loved that the book was multi pov!!

I genuinely liked reading this novella, but not as much as Powerless. I didn’t connect with the characters as well, and it took a bit longer than I expected to get behind their relationship; opposites attract is kind of hard to write well in such a short story in my opinion. But I was thoroughly invested and devastated by the ending. The author has some beautiful writing that is still easy to understand and feel. I wish there was less focus on the romance and more plot though- I would have loved to see the interaction between Adena and the king, or to hear more about the common people and their opinion of the Trials. If Mak isn’t reintroduced later in the series I’ll riot. This was his rebel origin story.

As for the first book of the serie, I’m not a fan of the way it’s written. But I am fan of the twists and the characters. I knew what would happen, but deep down I kept hoping that somehow what happened in the first book didnt happen for real (and even though it still happened AGAIN, I will keep hope, leave me alone). I can’t wait to read the sequel!!!

it took me so so long to finish this book because I was trying to avoid the ending. everyone who's read powerless knows how this ends and I think all of you understand my pain.

I still LOVED it so much. it made me cry and smile.

I hope Mak and Paedyn meet and become best friends in the future and bond over their love for Adena.

loved Adena (as before) and Mak so much.

I love how I feel like I'm a mix of Paedyn and Adena.

I enjoyed getting to know Adena more and see how she was spending her time during the trails. The chapters around her death were heartbreaking and beautiful.
