It's not that I think this book is amazing and everyone should read it. It's just that it made me a little nostalgic for my baby queer days when I watched this music video over and over again. And now, years later Hayley Kiyoko herself actually wrote the story for those two characters.
Though with that, I must say it was a little underwhelming. I should have known as simple YA romances just don't really hot the same anymore for me. It wasn't bad necessarily, just a little clunky and repetitive at times. I think if this book had come out seven years ago I would have loved it a lot more. For me it's just a little too late to be reading this.
It's a debut novel and it very much feels like a debut novel in YA. It was... Fine I guess.

This was an easy read even though some subjects in the book were heavy (like suicide and drugs). I didn't really find most of the characters likeable and I wasn't really rooting for Coley and Sonya to get together. I mostly felt bad for Coley and her dad, and was happy they figured out how to start being a family. I liked Coley's development but no one else seemed to have much.

I love this book as an exploration into young queer love and navigating your true self. Minus one star
because on no planet should Collie and Sonia worked out.

This book was enjoyable but wasn't amazing. I really disliked the ending but I thought coley was a fun protagonist. I enjoyed Haley Kioko doing the audiobook too

Being able to read the song and music video come to life as a full story was incredible to see especially as a younger queer girl. The story was pretty good overall but there were some parts I was just frustrated and didn’t want to keep reading. The ending was at least satisfying and I am so grateful to live in a world where these stories get to be told.
