This book was so amazing. It's a 4.5, but rounded up.
The writing style is unique and took a second to get used to but once fully in Adina's mind, it's an amazing place. I loved her everyday observations and straight-faced humor.
For an alien protagonist, this book was very human. You will laugh and definitely cry.
Give butternut a pet from me when you meet her.

i was more engaged for the childhood/young adult parts of this book but maybe that’s because i haven’t gotten to the other parts in my own life yet. i also i went in expecting sci-fi and that may have been my fault but it was not giving sci-fi.

Very odd and thoughtful. Probably will remember this book for a while.  When I was reading it,  it was hard to stop,  but when I put it down it was hard to pick up.

This book is built upon the voice of a very unique character and her slightly detached view of the world around her. This gives her the ability to observe and comment on social situations in a way that is both poignant and humorous.

The social commentary focuses on poverty, privilege, and what it was like growing up in the 80s. It also explores the role of perspective in our imperfect memory.

It took me a few chapters to get engaged, but that was mostly because I expected a different sort of book.

If you are looking for a story about an alien from outer space studying humans, then this book isn't for you. But if you're interested in looking at the world through a distanced and slightly poetic lens, then you'll love this book.
