The fifth volume of Heartstopper begins a welcome transition for the series towards an older audience. Charlie and Nick are now getting older and Nick has to decide whether his interest in going to university is worth leaving Charlie for months at a time. At the same time, they are beginning to start the foray into sex, but are seeking help in navigating this new stage of their relationship. The book very deliberately pokes fun at the abstinence-based education that is so common in the British school system, and at the same time places an emphasis on the healthy and informed development of sexual relationships. I was delighted to see references to Solitaire in this book, as that novel supposedly takes place at this time. Excited for the sixth instalment!
