This takes the notion of the Pony Express and runs with it, only Issac doesn't deal with wind, rain, and snow so much as the Plaguers/Risers, Issac meets with some strange characters -and some familiar - but the danger he faces is as real with both the living and the walking dead. In the end his stubborn determination to deliver the package might end his life -or he might find it worth it all in the end.
The most pressing and unanswered question to me is what was in the package? And what is worse that is coming after the walking undead (why did they come down from the mountains? Are they being chased? Herded?...

As a big fan of the fusion of the Western and Zombies genres, I liked this story. However, I never quite connected with the main character, so I didn't enjoy as much as I should have.
This is my least favorite of the three Red Dust stories.
