I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the first book (Tesser). I liked the returning characters and a few of the new ones but I wasn't fond of the cheaters of death. Also, I sometimes had a hard time differentiating between dialogue and inner dialogue. I think this is because I was listening to the book and there wasn't really a way to indicate the difference as there is in print. I don't know that I need to "read" anymore of the series.

Just like last time Chris Philbrook has created a great story, with interesting characters, and well-written stakes. I like the twists and turns that get put on magic in a modern world. How the effects of Tesser's actions in the first book are still not fully realized. How Ambryn is challenged by the circumstances of his allies and enemies. I'm diving straight into book 3 after this!

Overall it was just okay. Some enjoyable moments, some decent action scenes, and decent character development.

I didn't care for this book nearly as much as Tesser, the first book in the series. What I loved about Tesser was his emergence and acclimation to the new world. So, even there, I loved the first half of the book more than the second half.

Overall, it was still good, with enough fantasy and action to keep me reading. But I'm not necessarily hungry for a third book in the series.
