Didn’t realize this was the second book in the series, but I was able to follow along fine. Simple writing, wasn’t sure where the story was going for some time, but it picked up into a classic Grisham story toward the latter half of the book. A quick read.

I enjoyed the book. It was a fun and easy read. I enjoyed learning more about the island's residents.

I have liked most of Grisham's books and Camino Island is one of my favourites. But this one is not one of those. It was like reading a debut novel that was badly edited. The story of Camino Island was repeated at least thrice. Bruce was not even needed in the whole plot. The unravelling of the mystery and the aftermath, read like a newspaper report. I am very disappointed.

Love a good Grisham novel! This is not a legal thriller, but a murder mystery set on Camino Island. It is the second book in this series but can absolutely be read as a stand alone. It is a fun, twisty read that I read in a weekend.

Bruce Cable returns in this book after his adventure Camino Island. He is the owner of Bay Books, the indie bookstore that everybody wants to visit. The store is about to welcome back Mercer Mann, the writer with a connection to the Island. But Hurricane Leo has other ideas and is headed straight for them. Most people head for the mainland but Bruce stays to try to protect his store.

In the aftermath of the storm. Bruce is told of the death of writer and friend Nelson Kerr. At first look it appears that it was the storm that killed him but the closer they look the more it appears to be murder. Local police get nowhere with the case so Bruce and his friends start investigating . Who would want Nelson dead and why? Could his unpublished manuscript hold the key?

I really enjoyed this fast paced and thrilling story. Grisham fans will love it, even if it is not a legal thriller. His writing is brilliant and his characters full of life. Highly recommend.

Thank you Hachette Australia for my copy of this book to read.

Meh. What's with this camino island bookseller series, anyways? I read Grisham for some saucy legal drama written for the lowest common denominator, not some weird character piece about a middle aged polyamourous bookseller. It's not interesting.

Sequel to Camino Islands. Love Grisham books, but I didn’t like this one as much as the first one. But the the setting of a murder during Hurricane Leo was fun being a Florida girl.
Spoiler SPOILERS: Back to Camino Island, 3 years later. Nelson a author friend of Bruce ends up dead in hurricane. Hit over head with golf club, made to look like accident. Linked to a new book he was writing that hit too close to home regarding drug companies And nursing homes. I preferred the plots around the island’s characters and the book store over this plot. Bruce finally gets married at end of the book.
