This book is SOOO reminiscent of the author [a:Agatha Christie|123715|Agatha Christie|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1321738793p2/123715.jpg]! I have to give props to Catriona McPherson for being such an intelligent writer. The story was good, and the writing was good. I was so into this book, trying to figure out "who done it". The only reason I did not give the book a 5 star rating is because there were a few parts that were very difficult for me to read and understand. Other than that, BEAUTIFUL. I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone, and especially to those that are big fans of Agatha Christie.

I won this book on Goodreads First Reads.

It seems so long ago now ... apparently I read this first, and liked it enough to then go find the actual first book and proceed in order, events which are long-forgotten now. But I can't forget the department store setting, so I know with 100% certainty this was my introduction to the series, and I loved it.

(Note: I'm a writer, so I suffer when I offer fewer than five stars. But these aren't ratings of quality, they're a subjective account of how much I liked the book: 5* = an unalloyed pleasure from start to finish, 4* = enjoyed it, 3* = readable but not thrilling, 2* = disappointing, and 1* = hated it.)

Exceptionally difficult to follow but lively and enjoyable. A family tree at the beginning of a mystery is always bad news.
