I was concerned coming into this book because it seemed like it was going to be about the Chicago world’s fair. But it was more about this young woman who has a trash husband and wants to find herself. She is guided by the belly dancers at the world fair. I enjoyed the drama of her and her husband. I did not understand the need for the doctor really or switching perspectives? Especially her childhood friend turned enslaved housemaid/ relative. I think that wasn’t super necessary. I felt for her the most. I enjoyed the book and it kept me reading! I read it in two days I was so engrossed.
