I wanted to like this book so much more than I did because I really like Judy Carrier. But too much Italian Vendetta stuff, too much about pigeons and not enough Mary DiNuzio. I do enjoy this series and can't wait to keep reading but this one was difficult to get through.

I accidentally got a abridged version, I would probably have given it 4* if I had read the complete thing.

I like Lisa Scottoline. I genuinely do. This is the first lawyer-y book of hers I've read, but her memoir books are comedy gold. Plus I listen to the audiobook, rather than read them, and her voice is just so damn pleasant and Italian.

Unfortunately, this is just not my kind of book.

It's frustrating, because the plot is actually good. I enjoyed Judy, and Pigeon Tony. I didn't care as much about the Frank-as-boyfriend plot (Dear Ms Scottoline: Please don't use the word "lover". Don't make me hate you.), but it still worked.

I liked the suspense of the Caluzzi's coming after Judy. I liked the dog. I liked the birds. I didn't completely despise the flashbacks to fascist Italy.

I loved the courtroom scenes at the end. That part I really got into, more than any other part of the book. But getting there felt like a long process.

I can't say I'll never read another crime novel by Ms Scottoline. But I definitely won't reach for one before I reach for a humor book by her.

She is talented, and should be read. Whatever one's taste is.

I really enjoyed this book, the second I've read in this series. I love the character of attorney Judy Carrier, who is so sympathetic to a tiny old Italian man accused of murder that she takes on his case pro bono. I learned something about how the law works and a lot about the Italian community in Philadelphia. Great sense of place.

This book was pretty good, but I have read a fair amount of Scottoline and this isn't her best work. It is about a lawyer who represents an old Italian man who committed an act of murder as a part of a vendetta. Interesting, but a little redundant at times.

A rather easy read. Pigeon Tony is arrested for killing a lifetime enemy, and Judy Carrier must defend him, and try to save his life in the process. Was Tony getting revenge on his enemy for wrongs against him?

"Philadelphia lawyer Judy Carrier couldn't be less like Ally McBeal -- Post-it size skirts and makeup are alien territory where she's concerned. But she's smart, feisty, and packs a mean punch. In short, just the woman to turn to if you're charged with murdering the head of a particularly vicious family of crooks. With the aid of a posse of octagenarian pigeon fanciers, Judy takes on the mob and proves that there is justice after all." (From Amazon)

My first Lisa Scottoline novel and I loved it! I read it again when I read the series in order and it still gripped me. Loved the suspense thriller aspect but also the romance. A great book.
