The story was interesting albeit a little choppy. it would have benefited from a thorough editing. the book was amazingly short, I finished it faster than I expected.

I received a free pdf copy from netgalley for my review.

Fun story in the style of a TV Series (as the Serial Box website says).

A group of Vatican archivists fights to keep monsters from coming into our world through books. Sally, a police officer, is our way of getting into the story when she gets pulled into their world.

I'm excited to see what a couple of the writers will do with the story ([a:Mur Lafferty|97284|Mur Lafferty|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1314461906p2/97284.jpg] and [a:Max Gladstone|3405346|Max Gladstone|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/m_50x66-82093808bca726cb3249a493fbd3bd0f.png]), but am still deciding if the price works for me.

A fun start, but I don't know that I'm in for 16 parts.

It's going to take awhile to get used to the serialized format but I like the story enough to give it a try.

We've got a basic urban fantasy set up - demons trying to break into our world, a main character who just learned magic exists. It's quick-paced, mostly action and little character building but it is the intro to the series. We get right into the action, but I'm sure we'll learn more about the characters as the story continues.

Sal is a great character. She's intelligent and loves her brother, faults and all - and that's what draws her into this world. You have to give her credit though, she's tough.

I like the serial set up. It's a short read, it kind of wraps up but leaves you wanting to see what happens in the next one. I will say that the descriptions and analogies are well done. It's an enjoyable read. I don't know that it's terribly original, but it's fun.

Episode 1 of the "show". I enjoyed it as much as any episode of "The Librarians", "Warehouse 13" or "Friday the 13th the Series". It has the great writing of Gladstone in a modern paranormal police procedural. It's no Rivers of London, but what is?

This series was a lot of fun. Blasted through all of them because they're all such short books.

This is my first time reading a serial and I'm so glad I started with something like this. Bookburners brings back memories of watching the TNT Librarian movies along with reading the Robert Langdon books. It reminds me of eating lunch at my grandma's house while listening to the soap operas on the radio (we lived in Dominican Republic and radio serials were a big deal when I was seven years old and living in the countryside). It reminds me of watching a really good episode of a tv show that I really loved and being upset I couldn't watch all the episodes one after the other (thank you, Netflix, for making that possible for binge-watchers!).

Bookburners ultimately would get four stars out of five from me because I read it mostly on my lunch break and was a little shocked there wasn't more. I'm happy to see that more episodes have been written and I'll make sure to catch up soon. It was definitely like reading a tv episode and I'd love to go back into this world to see how Det. Brooks is handling being part of what is basically modern day Indiana Jones, or Librarians, or Vatican treasure seekers/keepers. I want to know what happens with Perry. I want to see more of Grace, Liam, and Menchu. The characters were engaging and it's obvious they all have their stories to tell.

The Kindle file I had was either not meant to be read on an iPhone or was just really bad formatting, which at times made it difficult to figure out who was talking or if time had passed between one sentence and the next. The episode was a super quick read and I would recommend it to fans of The Librarians tv show, to fans of The DaVinci Code, to fans of Supernatural; generally to fans of supernatural fantasy serials. I look forwards to reading the rest of the season between my other lunch breaks.

My copy of Bookburners was provided byNetgalley for an honest review.
