Read for class!
I can't say I enjoyed this (as it contains brutal, and true, descriptions of the torture of Native Americans by Spanish conquistadors), however, I think it is a text that should be more widely taught. It's truly haunting to read something written while these tragedies were happening, that so strongly condemns them.
However, I will say, Las Casas has some flaws of his own (seeing the Natives as lambs, etc.), but was still clearly progressive for his time, and has created an extremely valuable account of the genocide in the Americas.
