Sometimes I need a cheesy cozy mystery. Can’t wait to try some of the recipes in the book.

Catch Me If You Candy is the seventeenth cozy mystery in the A Bakeshop Mystery series. It is Halloween time in Ashland, Oregon and the town getting ready for the end of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s season, this means an annual parade. When a friend of Jules’ mom finds a mysterious message warning of death to come and a murder occurs on Halloween, Jules finds herself on the case.

This is the first book I have read in the series, but I enjoyed it all the same. I found the beginning to be a little slow, but that might have had to do with the fact that I was just meeting the characters for the first time and trying to acclimate myself into this well established world. About a third of the way through this book really picked up for me and I didn’t want to put it down. I quickly fell in love with these characters and this town and now I can’t wait to go back and start this series from the beginning. I think this is a good book and I can’t wait to see what else this series has to hold. This is a great Halloween cozy mystery whether you’ve read this series from the beginning or are just starting out like me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!

Book Review: Catch Me If You Candy: A Bakeshop Mystery
Stars: 3.5 of 5

Thank you @netgalley foe the ARC

Halloween has started in Ashland Oregon and everyone is descending onto Main Street for the annual Halloween Parade. Most everyone is in costume and a “victim” had been found right outside of Torte Bake Shop. An investigation begins and just as usual Jules and Carlos are right in the middle of it.

The story starts out well but ends up having too much going on. It was hard for me to keep up with the characters and all that was going on. I realize this may be because is it book 17 in the series and this is the first one I have read. The end was very interesting also somewhat predictable.

The book did fall a bit short for me but it is still a fun filled sweet Halloween mystery story.

I am excite that I found this series as I love a sweet good mystery series. I am ready to start reading book one and more. I also love the fact that the author lives in Northern California. Ellie Alexander is from the Pacific Northwest and many of her books are set in that geographic location. I love it as I know those areas very well.

In the latest installment of Ellie Alexander's Bakeshop Mystery Series, the season is winding down for the Shakespeare Festival, but there's one last hurrah when the picturesque town celebrates Halloween as only they can. Amid the hoopla, Juliet Capshaw, local baker, finds a dead body and once again is at the center of a local mystery involving dogs with star quality and a vintage Mahjongg set.

Every book in this series is full of the kind of sensory details that make the scene and people come alive. Alexander pairs a solid mystery with characters the reader can care about. The author has spooled out Juliet's story throughout the series in a way that is very satisfying for returning readers.

High marks to a book that amplifies all the requisite parts of a cozy mystery with excellent writing.

I love anything Halloween and this book hit the perfect holiday note (okay despite the terrible murder involved). This book was very twisty and I could never quite put my finger on what was truly going on and what all the connections were. Even though I did get a bit lost, I so enjoyed the narration and the way Jules helped with so many of the seemingly random pieces. I can't wait for more!

The original audiobook narrator is back, hooray!

I loved seeing Jules and the crew, but seeing a body after a parade when she and Carlos are walking home puts a damper on that. I’m always trying to figure out the whodunnit with Jules, because my guesses are wrong lol! I loved seeing the progress of certain relationships in the bakery  and a hint to more to come.
