This book gave me such a thrill of childlike wonder and whimsy. As a kid who grew up using books to escape reality, this hit really close to home. I loved how sweet and special so much of this book felt. It was heartwarming.

I found parts of the book to be super predictable, and the ending was tied up in an unrealistic, perfect bow. Given the rest of the story, I didn't mind the "perfect" ending.
Sometimes, especially on a day filled with uncertainty (finished this on Election Day), a happy ending gives me hope. Highly recommend this one!

a sweet and heartwarming story i must say. i loved the magical world that was clock island and how everything was so interconnected with the books. truly a dream if you will.
i wasnt super into any of the characters but jack is so sweet. he was probably my fav is i had to choose one. the romance situation is still insanely weird to me and i dont think needed to be included but if i had the chance to write in a british artist with tattoos and good sense of humor, i would too girl. and lucy’s draw towards christopher?? also weird but i get that its a major plot point.
the writing itself was decent and i liked the riddles but sometimes the pacing felt weird. like we spent the whole book being reminded of this one character’s flaw then its resolved in like three pages?? idk im just critical.

3.5 stars: magical and cute - what more could i want

The first book I truly believe was a 10/10. A story for us adults who sought sanctuary in books as children. A reminder that it’s ok still be that child sometimes. The plot revolves around the fictional best selling book series “Clock Island” and its author, and Meg Shaffer somehow was able make me want to buy all 60 some fictional books and read them all. This cozy, heartwarming book is guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat, waiting to see what the mastermind has planned next.

Not going to lie, when I picked this for my BOTM I wasn’t very excited to start it. However, it hooked me right away. I wanted to be part of this book and visit Clock Island and meet at the characters. If the Clock Island book series were real, I would read every single one of them after reading this book. I loved the theme throughout that wishes are only granted if you are brave enough to go after them.
