Not only does this book paint a picture of Jack the Ripper’s victims, it gives the reader a very good idea of what life was like for middle and working class people in Victorian England. A fascinating and heartbreaking read.

I enjoyed it for the most part and the author's basic theory
that all the women were not prostitutes
, does give one something to consider.  I do wish she hadn't been so heavyhanded in her attempt to find no blame towards the women themselves, as it makes it come across as if she is less interested in telling the stories of the five victims and more interested in proving her point.

The way Hallie Rubenhold writes, you can feel every single emotion she tries to convey. From dread to a bit of hope to powerless.

This book opens your eyes not only to the lives of these 5 women, but to the lives of many, many women in the Victorian era.

Hallie Rubenhold truly gave back these women their stories and their lives. She gave them the respect they were never given. She gave them justice.

It is good to see the victims of Jack the Ripper as human beings instead of faceless statistics to be gawked at.

I really really love the concept. The research done is amazing. These women were not victims and prostitutes. They were a product of their time and the patriarchy. But I felt the author loses the story in the insane amount of research and that made it hard to keep my interest and finish. I only really recommend if you’re very interested in the women and Jack the Ripper historically and love research.
