The whole thing is chilling, but it resonates extra deeply right now when she says she's from Ukraine and the authorities insist there's no such place.

(another good find by my kid that I'm glad I read too - LOVE that that is a thing now, for books way more substantial than Elephant & Piggie, although we both loved those too, back in the day)

Easy book to read with a story line in a difficult time for the World. It was good to know that after all that they went through, a happy ending awaited.

Great middle grade book about WWII from their perspective about life in a concentration camp.

This took quite a bit of scaffolding and explaining history for my kids to get it since it didn't really explain who the Soviets or how they were on the same side as Nazi Germany and how they had taken over Poland and the Ukraine OR which countries were on the Allied side. The chapters had suspense and mystery, but the ending was kind of a let down.
