This is a perfect follow up to the first book in the series. The second is funny, well-written and the mystery is strong and interesting too. Beatrice continues to develop as an interesting character, as does Kesgrave, and their relationship begins to grow in a really nice, pleasing way. Their romance is somewhat slow, but this works with both characters very well. It's nice to see them begin to develop a stronger interest in each other as it goes on. The introduction of the character of Lady Abercrombie adds another dash of humour to proceedings.

Like the first in the series, this was a solid cozy Regency romance murder mystery. If that collection of adjectives sounds like something you'll enjoy, then you'll probably enjoy this! I can imagine the formula getting a bit stale (I'm not quite certain how it will hold up to the 12-so-far books in the series), but so far I expect to stick with it at least a couple more!

Others may feel otherwise, but the agony of pining and feeling second rate while that not being the case absolutely hits me to the core. I love the leads so much.
