So disappointed.  The basics of writing a book are: that something has to happen, and that the characters have to learn something.  This book spent its entire length avoiding anything happening, and then just when something was about to happen, it ended.
The author eviscerated my favorite character (Ma), who all but disappears in this book.  What's more, they all encourage Jax to go off and do this heroic/arguably stupid deed, without telling his mother where he is going or who is and isn't with him.  This isn't about a kid growing up and doing his own thing, it's about an utter failure of adult guidance in a young man's life, and was just the thing that this series nicely avoided until now.

I continue to really enjoy this series, more so with each book. I was shocked to learn from the author's note that this book nearly didn't get published due to publishers' reticence. This book is my favorite of the series so far and I'm excited to keep reading Jax's story.

I was very delighted and surprised when I saw this book since I enjoyed the two prior books and didn't realize the series was continuing. I'll definitely be reading the rest but I hate reading a series when all the books aren't out yet and there's no word on how many there will be and when the next book will be out.
