This started as a decent light read, though there were so many grammar mistakes, I almost DNF’d. The story idea is fine - as others have mentioned, it’s very light on magic, but I was ok with that. So I was enjoying it as a small-town murder mystery up until Vic’s attack , and then it becomes a typical first love as savior story. The mysteries that should have been twists were only surprising because the culprits were minor characters or people we’d never heard of , and then when they identify the real killer, they just… kill her? Using the curse originally intended for their family? Which law enforcement know about, so the family will be number one on the suspect list? We get some minor character development of Vic, until she out of the blue melts into the arms of her first love, “my light,” barf - and suddenly everything is fine. Overall, it just felt very thrown together - I liked the concept, but it read like a first draft.
