Incredibly moving. I went through this book in two days (albeit it being a short book) and never wanted it to end. There's something about Winman's writing style that manages to both encapture and enthrall the reader. I found it a touching and tender novel to read, and will definitely be reading her other novels.

I'd read somewhere to bring the tissues for this one and, ignoring that advice, I spent most of my time reading this one with blurred vision. I found it so deeply affecting for such a short novel. A novel I could easily revisit. Beautiful. Heartbreaking.

The review on the front cover of my copy had claimed this book was a mediation on love, art, loss, & redemption. This description is what drew me to Tin Man, because oftentimes, the quietest books are beautiful for their quivering silence, the richness in sparse, powerful sentences. In the same way that Call Me By Your Nameand Gideon made me feel the power of moments, the glimmering quality of the present, Tin Man made me feel the same. Buying the book was a spur of the moment decision—so I didn’t think too much of it when I finished it. It wasn’t until I was on a plane ride home, mulling over the relationships and the ending, that I realized the story was still stuck to me. I like to think it’s because this book just came at the right time for me, its message swirling in my mind into something stronger. That being said, Tin Man is a well written, carefully considered book that utilizes its brevity to make its story heavy with the weight of regret, longing, and love.

I unexpectedly really enjoyed this book, I found a surprising peace whilst I was reading it. The story is very tender and will make you cry but it will also give you hope and make you feel the warmth of standing in a sunflower field in the blazing heat.

The characters are well crafted and their journeys through grief are heart wrenching yet hopeful.
