Dude. Dude. Duuuuuude. Hello Sheriff Duke Evans!

I'm just going to just jump right in. Read this book! Jiminy Crickets, just read it.

Okay, okay. So, wow. I don't know what to say. This book is full of chemistry, which I wasn't expecting. It has some sass, which I always welcome. It has a (not so overly) alpha hero, which works in this book. I devoured this book. I didn't want to put it down.

I guess you're probably wondering why not the full five stars with this if I loved it so much. It's the heroine. I liked her enough, but I didn't love her. She was a bit too immature at times for me. There were times I questioned whether she was even an adult. My indifference towards her did take a little from the book for me.

Now let me jump back in here.... The suspense in this book is very reminiscent of The Coppersmith Farmhouse. I felt like I was back there, in a way. It's hard to explain without putting spoilers in here. Reading this book wasn't just an adventure; it was an experience. I guess you just need to read it to understand what I mean.

I don't really have a lot more to say. Just go read this book. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed.

When Duke, a sheriff in a small town, runs into Jade on a hiking trail, the attraction between them is instantaneous. But when he pulls her over a few days later on a speeding charge and discovers she’s actually a famous country singer called Lucy, his suspicions rise. Lucy is on the run from her past, and she’s desperate to keep her location a secret - so she offers him a bribe to stay quiet. But Duke is determined to find out what she’s hiding.

This was a fun read. The writing is very good - I’ve read a few of her works as Devney Perry, and I find her super easy to read and to get into. It just tripped along nicely -There was also a really nice small-town vibe to this that I enjoyed. The suspense plotline in the background worked well for me - I would have liked a few more twists and turns and I wasn’t so keen on the final reveal, but there were some exciting and dramatic moments.

The romance was good; Duke and Lucy spend a lot of time together on page, a lot of it quite gentle with them getting to know each other, and that was enjoyable. They had good chemistry and some lovely scenes together. Overall it was a nice read - nothing too exciting but engaging enough to keep my interest. I would recommend it if you’re looking for a small-town, hidden identity romance with a protective hero and a suspense subplot.

I love Devney Perry and I’ll recommend her every chance I get. I wanted to continue reading this series and so I read this book again. I loved how Duke and Lucy knew what they wanted and not afraid to voice their feelings. I always love the mystery aspect of Perry’s books and this one didn’t disappoint either. I loved how Duke was so attentive to every little detail and made Lucy feel at home. Every was the person I would want as my best friend, she loved Lucy and their friendship was everything.

This was very fun! I loved how it had mystery/thriller aspects to it but still stayed at its core a romance novel. It was very insta-lovey so if that’s not your thing this might not be the book for you. I read the second book in the series first a few months ago and didn’t even realize it until the characters were referenced and i was like
