Absolutely eating this series up. Love the lore we’re being given and I can’t wait to see where it goes next

I just didn’t enjoy this volume of American Vampire as much as I did the previous 2 volumes. The first story “Strange Frontier” was incredibly fun as it continues with Skinner Sweets still “following” Pearl & her husband Henry as they come out of hiding to throw in with the war effort.
It was the second story “Survival of the Fittest” a 5 part story that I just didn’t find interesting in the slightest nor did I care for the art.

4 stars because Survival of the Fittest was a banger. Skinner continues to remain kind of a loser antagonist, though. He’s not very interesting, but even worse, he’s not very scary.

I love this series, however I was not that happy that Rafael Albequre (sp?) had not done most of the artwork for this set of novels. I loved the way that the characters were portrayed, and the death of Skinner Sweet (though, since the series is focused on him and there are at least 3 more books it is hard to believe he has really been killed) was an interesting story. I just felt that they had started to add too many characters and story lines. I kept wanted to find out what was happening with Pearl and Sweet, the Book family. I will still read this series, I am just hoping they start melding the stories back together. Also I hope they find guest artists who have similar style (it is jarring to change artwork half way through a book).

It took me a little while to get into this one, but once I did it really sucked me in. The Skinner Sweet half was much more interesting than the Agt. Book half, but overall this is still the best volume so far.

I never thought I would enjoy a vampire series this much, but Snyder (currently writing Batman and Swamp Thing) is doing some amazing work in all of his stuff right now.
